A new conference gives the construction site the attention it deserves

The Bedre Byggeplads conference puts the spotlight on the role of the construction site in construction. It needs far more attention, say the five prominent industry organisations behind the conference.

How do you cut the number of accidents on Danish construction sites, and what does it take to give the trades more real time building? What does planning and site management mean for the cost of the construction site, and how do we turn the site into a defence against economic crime, sabotage and espionage rather than the way in?

Those questions, and many others, are answered on 10 September 2026, when SiteHub, DI Byggeri, ConTech Lab, Molio (the Danish knowledge centre for construction) and Aarsleff host Bedre Byggeplads, a new conference devoted entirely to site operations, logistics, security, the working environment and compliance. The construction site is construction's most important lever for efficiency and safety, and the most overlooked. We do not solve that with another report. It takes the industry coming together and acting. That is exactly what the Bedre Byggeplads conference is for. Wide perspectives, concrete expertise

Denmark’s largest contractor, Aarsleff, together with SiteHub, represents the practical side of the conference and secures the link between theory and the actual conditions on site. Molio, ConTech Lab and DI Byggeri bring the wider view, along with knowledge and tools for digitalisation and efficiency across the whole industry. Delegates will go home with new insight into where the industry is heading, and into what actually turns into change on the country’s construction sites.

The construction site is where every decision meets practice, but it is also where collaboration is too often under strain, because many different players have to succeed at the same time. If we want to change that, we have to stop treating the construction site as a logistics problem to be handled and start treating it as a strategic discipline to be led. The programme also features Lykke Friis, former minister and now director of the think tank Europa, and Rasmus Brandt Lassen, director of DI Byggeri, each giving a keynote. Under the title “EU, what now?” Lykke Friis takes the temperature of a Europe in crisis, puts the latest developments in perspective and gives her view of where the continent is heading. Rasmus Brandt Lassen looks at what it costs when the construction site is not under control, and what it takes to get there, in a talk titled “Control of the construction site”.

Beyond that, the conference consists of three tracks with three talks each, digging into carefully chosen subjects on the role of the construction site in building projects.

  • More time building, less risk. What the construction site means directly for budget, schedule, quality and the working environment. With cases from real construction sites and from the digitalisation of logistics.

  • New demands on critical infrastructure. The defence sector is building at scale, data centres are going up, and so are energy projects. All while a new threat picture, which has moved from analogue to hybrid, takes shape. What does that demand of the construction site when it comes to security, procedures, documentation and site management?

  • The construction site as a defence against organised crime. DKK 600 million is what theft costs the Danish construction industry every year. On top of that come money laundering and cartel activity.

The conference brings together the people working on the solutions. The talks will be announced as they are confirmed, but the programme already includes sessions on working environment coordination as a source of value, and on how site data can strengthen the basis for decisions and management.
