Danish scale-up CEO elected to the day-to-day leadership of European construction

Ulrik Branner, CEO and founder of SiteHub, has taken the Nordic seat on FIEC’s Steering Committee and becomes the Danish representative in a forum that looks after the interests of a European sector accounting for 10% of EU GDP and 14 million jobs.

The European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) held its general assembly in Paris on Friday 29 May 2026. There, Ulrik Branner, founder and CEO of the Danish company SiteHub, was elected to FIEC’s Steering Committee. SiteHub specialises in construction site operations and logistics, and in software and hardware for the construction site. Ulrik Branner takes the Nordic seat and becomes the representative for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in the organisation’s political leadership.

FIEC represents 32 national construction federations in 27 European countries and is the recognised employers’ party in the EU’s sectoral dialogue for construction. The Steering Committee consists of the president and around ten vice presidents, who meet regularly and set the direction for the industry’s dialogue with the EU institutions.

SiteHub is a young scale-up with only five years behind it, and in that light the election of Ulrik Branner is notable, as the seat is traditionally held by executives from large contracting groups.

This is a job I take on with great pleasure and humility. I sit down at the table with clear priorities. Better construction sites, treated as workplaces with demands on conditions, organisation and development. Security and safety on construction sites have to be an integrated part of building projects. We are in a European reality with a changed threat picture and a greater risk of espionage, sabotage and hybrid warfare, and construction sites are no exception.

Beyond security and the status of construction sites as workplaces, the SiteHub chief says he will also work to address the structural challenges facing European construction: a productivity that, according to analyses from McKinsey among others, has barely moved in 30 years, an expected shortage of 3 million skilled workers in Europe in the coming years, the industry’s role in the reconstruction of Ukraine, and the European housing crisis.

Construction accounts for 10% of GDP and employs 14 million people in Europe, but our productivity has stood still for 30 years. At the same time we have to build the homes Europe is missing and help raise Ukraine again, with 3 million fewer skilled workers than we need. That equation demands that we do things differently. And the Nordics have something to bring to it.
